Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

At Claremont, we are proud that many of our children speak different world languages and show respect for all cultures and nationalities. We believe that study of languages is important in our diverse, multilingual school community, and that it prepares our children for life as citizens of the world. At Claremont, Spanish is taught to all pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 by specialist language teachers. The children learn to converse in spoken language and also read and write simple Spanish. They are also encouraged to develop their understanding of the language through a variety of fun games, songs, role play and activities. In addition to this, the Study of language is also linked with other curriculum areas to reinforce knowledge, skills and understanding developed in other subjects.
